There’s already been a Slender Man documentary. Now comes the fright movie version of the internet’s urban legend.
A new feature film titled Slender Man uses the real-life occurrence of two 12 -year-old Wisconsin girls who stabbed a classmate in 2014, apparently to conciliate Slender Man, as its foundation. Slender Man is a faceless, fictional boogeyman that originated in a Something Awful forum in 2009 and then crossed over to creepypasta, a forum for internet fright narratives. Nonetheless, the trailer paints with wider strokes. In this movie from Sylvain White (< em> The Americans ), it seems Slendy has a hold on all the teens in township and is constructing them do something awful.
One of the teens involved in the actual stab, Anissa Weier, was just sentenced to 25 times in a mental hospital. The other, Morgan Geyser, pleaded guilty in October and will likewise be committed to a mental hospital. Sure, this movie probably would have played better back when Slender Man was still a spooky myth and not the source of a horrific tragedy, but perhaps it can still scare some people.
Slender Man is out May 18.
