It looks like two daughters from Hawaii found the real-life version the Moana character Maui, and guess what? He works at Costco! He’s a cashier and goes by the epithet William Va’ana.
We have to admit, William does have a striking similarity to the Moana demi-god, voiced by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in the movie. It turns out eight-year-old Ryley and her sister five-year-old Rylyn thought so, too.
The girls were shopping with their momma when one of them spotted William at the cash register and insisted that he must be Maui. The younger sister starts chanting Maui’s name and quickly get William’s attention.
The Moana movie took “the worlds” by storm when Disney released it back in 2016, so it’s no ponder the girls were so excited when they believed they were about to meet one of the most important characters. William had the sweetest reaction to the attention and best of all it was recorded for all to see! The girls’ mom whipped out her cellphone and recorded the encounter, which is now being widely shared around social media. In the video, William asks who the girls think he is. When they react enthusiastically, he invites them over to his side of the cash register for a quick meet and greet.
Once beside him, he and the girls let out Maui’s signature “chee-hoo” call and it’s utterly adorable. William is pretty darn good at performing the “chee-hoo” and it might be because it isn’t his first time being mistaken for the animated character.
William’s appearance has caused numerous children to mistake him for Moana ‘ s Maui, but he says he always play-acts along and does the “chee-hoo” yell with them. If you’d was ready to bring some happiness to your period, you can watch the video that the girls’ mommy recorded of their encounter with Maui and his boom “chee-hoo” below. And when you’re done, pass it on or devote it a share. Induce someone else’s period only a little bit brighter, too. “It brought so much joy to my face to see how excited the girls were. Before I could get my phone out to video, “youve already” let out a loud’ chee-hoo.’ And the girls light up even more, ” said the girls’ mother, Rella Rivera. Since the video has been shared, the internet is illuminating up, too. Many viewers are commenting on how William is a local legend and how we need more kind people like him in the world.
One commenter proposed his administrator should pay him extra for his good deed, while another said, “He better end up on Ellen! ”
It’s a huge deal to meet your idols, especially when you’re a kid. So it’s great to know that William isn’t disappointing anyone. No one likes to find out their favorite celebrities aren’t nice people.
Perhaps in 2018, we should all strive to be a little more like William. Kindness runs a long way, and not only were sisters Ryley and Rylyn beaming from ear to ear, plenty of people around the world who watched the video became just a little bit happier, too.
