This shocking ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ scene is prompting theaters to post a disclaimer

Star Wars: The Last Jedi has become arguably the most polarizing film in the saga’s 40 -year history, with many diehard devotees questioning Rian Johnson’s plot phases and character growings( or, in their belief, absence thereof ). Those criticisms are at least understandable, if misguided, but there’s one moment in the movie that audiences apparently find so confounding, it’s prompted certain movie theatre to post disclaimers outside their auditoriums.

During the final one-third of The Last Jedi , Laura Dern’s Vice-Admiral Holdo turns a resist ship 180 degrees and accidents into a First Order destroyer at light-speed, altogether obliterating the craftsmanship. It’s a climactic minute in the movie preceded by roughly 10 seconds of silence–but, apparently, several moviegoers construed Johnson’s creative decision as a technological flaw or premature purpose to the movie. As a make, AMC theaters have begun cautioning viewers of the heart-wrenching scene, assuring them that the silence “is intentionally done by the director for a creative effect.”
